Brake and rotor life

Just had 13 evoque in for it 60k service at dealer. They claim that the brakes are done with front at 2mm and back at 4mm. $800 for the brake job.

We purchased the 13 used with 38k miles. We've already replaced the brakes once since then.

Does the evoque eat brakes this bad? I usually get between 30k and 60k for brakes on other vehicles. Do you need to replace the rotors every time? Can they be turned?
I plan on taking it for a second opinion on the brakes. Are there better option then the OEM pads?

I don't think anyone turns rotors anymore... Not worthwhile.

So it's always pads and rotors for every brake job?

I wouldn't go that far... You should be able to do 2 pad sets on a rotor. But likely the rotors have some runout and thickness variation after 60K

Dealer is saying that rotors are bad after 25k. I will be getting a second opinion on that.

I had a look at the Factory Service Manual and is states that the front disc thickness is 28mm new, and service limit is 26mm. The rear is listed as 11mm new, and service life is 9mm.
This might give you some idea if what they are telling you is correct.

Here's their estimate.

What is anyone's else brake life? I still concerned that they aren't lasting 25k.

Damn! That's just the FRONT?

Yep. That's dealer pricing for you. I need to look for a good brake shop that doesn't have 16 year olds doing brakes on between oil changes.

If you go to a brake shop that doesn't specialize in Land Rovers, make sure they understand how to put the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) into service mode. If they don't, it will turn disastrous pretty quick!
2016 Evoque. 59,000 mi. Rear pads down to 4mm. Dealer wanted $1100. went to my local brake shop, they replaced pads, rotors and wear sensor for $570. Actually, $540, since I found a $30 off coupon.

They said that they could not turn the rotors on a Land Rover. They've tried in the past and I guess the material is too hard or something. So- they would only replace them.
Went 73K on stock brakes and pads owned since new.

They were almost down the metal. Used EBC green stuff pads with slotted and dimpled rotors. Don't remember the cost but a pretty straight forward brake job after putting the parking brake in service mode. Performance is better than stock.

General information about Disc brake components: Rotors (Discs) will wear faster if you use pads that are more aggressive abrasive wise; will wear slower if you use pads less aggressive abrasive wise. Ceramic pads are very
aggressive, BUT they do stop vehicle a bit faster. In Earlier days, you could buy pads made with material less aggressive, though vehicle does stop slower slightly. For that reason, I try to avoid pads that are too abrasive, such as ceramic.
