In short , Is it better/practical to use command shift more often when reducing speed or should I hit the breaks more often ?
I mean is it safe for gear box to use command shift more often ?

Yamen,

The question you have asked has been debated for decades, but mostly for manual transmission
cars. One side of the debate is that brake pads/shoes are cheaper than clutch/transmissions parts.
The other side maintains that the stress is far less on clutch parts while down shifting than during
acceleration, so it doesn't hurt either the clutch or the transmission.

With an automatic the debate is a little harder to quantify on either side. I would say only downshift
an automatic on a very long steep down hill run, to save over heating the brakes.

Until I bought the Evoque all three of my vehicles had manual transmissions. I do down shift
to slow down in my manual transmission cars, but not in the Evoque. Old habits die hard.

brake parts are cheaper than transmission parts.

if you rev-match on a manual downshift the wear however should be minimal.

no clue how you sort that out with a torque-tube in the mix though.

doody.
