I picked up my Evoque last night! :) However, I was told that if I'm within 36" of the door and the key is in my purse, that the door will automatically unlock when I go to open the door. I was also told that if the key is in my purse, all I need to do to LOCK the car is swipe my finger across the driver's door handle.

Neither feature is working. The only way I can lock or unlock the vehicle is by pushing the unlock/lock button on the key itself.

Any advice/help? Do I need to set this up myself somehow in order for it to work?

Firstly; the dealer should have shown you how to do this upon delivery.

So try this little experiment; lock the doors with the key fob. Then place the fob into your purse. Walk up to the car and try to open the door. Just grab the handle and pull. Does it open?

As far as locking the door with my finger, I use my thumb. Just lay your thumb across the two bars on the door handle.

Without going to the manual thats about all I can offer.

Another note regarding the thumb swipe: It seems you have to make direct skin contact with both ridges on the door handle. I have used gloves (I am in Minneapolis and yes, it is already that cold some days!) and it does not seem to work with gloves. Also, if the key fob is in the car, nothing will happen. It will not lock, and you will not get an indication from the car as to why. I usually curse under my breath as I repeatedly try to lock the car and then smile as I realize the Fob is in the car:)

What model do you have? I am not sure if all cars come with keyless entry....
