Whether or not Top Gear should be used as the yardstick for a car's capabilities is open to debate, but they thrashed their Evoque across Nevada so when the opportunity came up to do the Land Rover Adventure in Moab this year, I thought "why the hell not?".
To be clear, we're not talking about massive articulations and rock crawling, but we are talking technical trails, deep sand, slick rock, narrow ledges etc. On the factory summer tyres. Without airing them down.
There were 42 cars on our tour this year, split into three trails each day. Obviously I wasn't going to do Steel Bender or Hell's Revenge but the others all seemed fair game to me. So we put it all out there and did Bartlett Wash, Spring Valley Bottom, Gemini Bridges and Long Canyon.
And holy shit the Evoque is awesome. I can elaborate if this thread picks up steam, but to answer the obvious question - yes - it kept up with Defenders, LR3s and LR4s without any issues whatsoever, as long as you're not doing stupid trails. If you've never taken your Evoque off-road, grab some courage and just do it. If you fear a little undercarriage scrape, dust and dirt, this might not be for you, but otherwise, this was more fun than a barrel of monkeys....

I've shared a Flickr album of the weekend's fun here:

And there's a 15 minute edit of all the GoPro video here, which I can't host on Facebook or YouTube or the music police will get me :)

I'm still awaiting the photos taken OF us by others, but those will join the Flickr stream eventually.
