a lot of stuff needs to be taken apart now and you also need some special tools. its quite the job. idk your experience but i wouldn’t recommend this job if you’re not experienced. i’m more than willing to answer any questions you have if you decide to tackle the job yourself.

Thank you for all the great details, Spyarc! I did try to tackle this job, only because I’m afraid the engine has internal damage and I just wanted to give this a try before replacing the engine. I got the new parts in it and it didn’t resolve anything. My question now is could I replace the engine with a Ford 2.0 ecoboost from a fusion, escape, or other models? Or would it have to be from a Land Rover? The motor in my car says “FoMoCo” everywhere and appears to be the same engine as the Ford vehicles.

Thanks again!

The older diesel Evoques had Ford Engines. If yours says FOMOCO it appears yours has a Ford engine.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry that you joined due to a major issue:mad:.

If you want to PM me your e-mail address, I can send you an exploded view of the cylinder head from the factory service manual. This shows both of the cam shaft position sensors, exhaust and intake, as well as both of the variable valve timing solenoid valves. Could be that it is one of these solenoid valves that is causing your problem. Of course, this is just a guess on my part. Seeing all of the parts involved, my help you better understand what the shops are telling you about the work involved.
I could sure use the exploded view as well.

I need to change the VVT solenoids on my 2013 Evoque. Any advice for accessing and removing the old solenoids? Looks like a pretty involved job unless I'm missing something.
Replaced mines it's actually pretty easy, you do have to remove the valve cover to get to them though. Let me know if you already fixed this or not, if not I can send you step by step instructions.

2017 discovery sport here…. Same thing as post 5. Driving down the hwy, lost all power. It’s been at the dealer for a week and the CPO warranty company is making them baby step it through. They found damage to the chain and both phasers. Has anyone else (besides post 5) have had a catastrophic failure fixed by just replacing the phasers and retiming the engine? Thanks!

The VVT solenoids sit on top of the cam cover, and can be accessed without removing anything except the plastic engine cover. If you want to PM me your e-mail address, I can send you an exploded view on the cylinder head components. This should give you an insight into where they are located etc.
Hi, I’m interested to know.
