Hi All. So I attempted to swap the pads on my 2012 Evoque after watching a how to vid on YouTube, but thy conveniently left out the part on setting the EPB to service mode. Long story short, one caliper ended up popping the piston. Does anyone know if I open the bleed valve to reduce pressure, and use a standard brake spreader, should the piston be able to compress back in? I really wish I had checked this forum instead of YouTube!!

Hi Rsquared. Thanks for the reply. I did get my Evoque into maintenance mode, but the piston doesn't appear to have retracted. When I try to push in the piston, even after loosening the bleed valve, it just doesn't move.
I read that someone had a similar problem but didn't post on how they fixed it. I'm thinking I should try removing the motor that pushes the piston out when the brake is engaged? And manually retracting it? I'm not sure what to do at this point and now freaking out that I will have to have it toed to the shop :(

Hi all. Thanks for the feedback. So it looks like because I had the caliper off prior to getting it into service mode, the threaded rod that pushes the piston out for the EPB, ended up not being able to thread back because it extended so far. So I had no choice but to pull the caliper off. I had to take the piston completely out, then use a socket wrench to hold the inner piece in place so that I could thread it again. Here is exactly what it looks like: TRW Electric Parking Brake EPB - KPS Automotive Parts Even after getting that far, the piston still won't go back in. The caliper spreader I was using was actually bending. At this point I have no other option but to buy a new caliper...ugh!!! If anything, I've learned to do more research before tackling something like this on a newer car. As well as verifying hardware since it looks like Range Rover used different TRW versions on different production lines.
